Unhappy amp bridging eating fuses, but load seems ok

heyhey. im eli.
as theChris once said, "noone replies to my threads but i'll give it a try"

my hifi amp, 4 ohm stable (well 2.666 tested due to an accidental wiring... dont ask) keeps dropping fuses when i attempt to bridge subs over it. its a four channel amp, about 35w rms/ch @ 4 ohms. The subs i use (i have quite a collection of not - so - good subs which i dont use) are two Kenwood KFC-XW10DBs. sparing you too many details, they are each 4ohm subs with power levels out of any reach of my hifi amp. They are wired in series in a single sealed box (came with them). I want to wire the 8ohm box over two channels (spk.B outputs L and R.. unless anyone has a better suggestion...and yes, i switch the amp to mono first..) and i have tried this in numerous ways, each way deciding to drop a fuse. Also, the single way that worked if anything seemed lower power... the way that worked being bridging two left channels (spk. A + B) in either of two ways. I havn't drawn out the wiring diagrams I have tried yet but i will do so tonight. this may sound a little stupid but could someone please post a simple bridging diagram up just so I know im doing it right? cheers.

also, would I be wrong in saying that the load should be ok? an 8 ohm load over two channels................= 4 ohms/ch?

Eli

If you bridge connect you will increase the current. It will be the double with the same load.

You must have 8 ohms at least, I'll suspect.

If the amp can handle 2 ohms perfectly you can use 4 ohms in bridge mode.

If the amp can handle 4 ohms (not less) perfectly you can use 8 ohms (but not less!) in bridge mode.

cheers, that was very helpful.

if there is a 16 ohm load bridged over two channels (ie 8 ohms per channel) would the amp be giving power of twice the 8 ohm power of one channel?

Which a 16 ohms load (bridged) each amp will "feel" 8 ohms load.

To answer your question, not twice but 150-180% (guess)... as long as you not exceed the current limits (may occur if you have too heavy load).
