Just use a Buffer on the output of your Source/volume control to drive the interconnect cable properly.

The gain of the chipamp must be 10times or higher and it seems to perform better if it is set to around 26times to 30times.

If your maximum output is 20Vac (50W into 8ohms), then a gain of 30times (+29.5dB) requires a MAXIMUM input of 667mVac.
Many sources have outputs around 2Vac to 2.4Vac and low level sources are often well over 500mVac.

If you did have a source that had a very low maximum output of 500mVac, then setting the chipamp gain to 40times (+32dB) would still be able to drive the chipamp to maximum power.
