Default 3886 gets warm with no signal

I built a 3886 amp, and the heatsink gets slightly warm when there is no signal. not hot, not even warm, but warmer than when the amp was off. I understand the trafo getting warm, but why the amp? I have a 8ohm speaker connected to it, and a 500ohm resistor across the input wires. There is absolutely no sound in the speaker, not even the slightest hiss, but it still gets slightly warm.

My understanding was that this chip should stay as cold as when turned on with no signal. Am I wrong?

thanks, mike

The idle current is around 50 mA so if you take that and the voltage across the IC you can calulate the power. = not cold without heatsink
