Default New op-amps

I just got an email in from OnSemi...

they are introducing some new stuff, amongst other things...

LM4780 stereo audio amplifier capable of delivering 60W per channel of continuous average output power
LM4781 three channel audio amplifier capable of delivering 35W per channel of continuous average output power into an 8 Ohm load
LM4782 three channel audio channel capable of delivering 25W per channel of continuous average output power into an 8 Ohm
LM4908 10kV ESD Rated, Dual 120mW Headphone Amplifier

They are also introducing WEBENCH some kind of forum where you can obtain more info on their op-amps and applications

and

a shortcut to the LM4780 http://news.national.com/ct?g=1.9nf3...ee7&i=6193&h=1

You meant National, right?
These chips are not exactly new. New to the "market", yes, but they have been availble as engineering samples for quite some time now.

and I could only see that these chips were NEW that's how they were introduced in the email....
the more because it also said in the email ' get your free samples today'

ofcourse I'm not an EE so that's where I have to stop .

I get info on the release of "new products" because I subscribed to their newsletter

People have been moving fast on the 4780... see here and here.

Personally, I am not sure these chips are a better idea than the old LM3875/76/86, for people like us. As it is, with the earlier chips, heat dissipation was an engineering challenge. If the power rating per chip increases, that will become even more severe. And other than those who have such a severe space crunch that they must compress two Gainclone PCBs into one, I guess most diy builders will opt for a single-channel amp chip.

The new chips will be great for commercial amps, though, where density is equated with cost cutting. And for active loudspeakers, I guess. Or even for bi-amped and tri-amped speakers, where you drive each driver with its own channel, but each driver handles relatively modest power.
