Default Article on Why Gainclones work - tests and tips

Hi. To anybody that's interested (and that would be a lot of you I guess) I've done some tests, worked out why Gainclones are so good, and written an article on it and stuck it on my website:

http://www.adx.co.nz/techinfo/audio/gainclone1.htm

Took a while, I hope it's worth the bandwidth, and is not seen as the shameless attempt at self promotion that it had to be for me to justify spending all that time on it... I'm a forum newbie so go easy on me (to a point, I can handle flames lapping at my ankles). Comments welcomed!

Okay. A few. First, the "low distortion" has only a marginal relevance to the "sound of the gainclone".

There are many "fringe" issues I feel you simply disregard because your tests, which look for one specific effect fail to reveal anything. There are many issues on audibility and measurability.

As long as you remain within the "accepted foundations of Electronics" you will believe in the actual reality of particles called "Electrons", which in reality have a mere apparency of eXistenZ, but no absolute reality. They work in many cases as perfectly adequate shorthand, but to mistake the usefulll illusion for reality clearly leads to misconceptions.

Do NOT adjust your mind
It is reality that is faulty
and requires percussive maintainance

Great article, right on the mark.

My those give parts or circuits magical or supernatural powers rave on. The rest of us get a good laugh out of it.

Exactly. At GCSE physics (this obivously only applies to the UK) you are told that electrons orbit the nucleus in 'shells' very nicely thank u very much. Then you get to A level and are told thats a bunch of BS and what u really have is a probability cloud where electrons 'may' be found at any point in time. And beyond that it gets messy Is an electron a particle or a wave? Or both?

Ur statement is contraversial. U say on ur site that u r professional & here u say u r newbie. Stich to one. ur answers on the answers on ur webpage shows ur arrogance. This DIY page where everybody helps eachother. come to that culture to get advantage of this forum. Make it give & take like Mr. Huge & Mr. Nelson.
