Default GC chassis.

I am thinking of using dead car audio amplifiers for the chassis of the amp. Lots of heat sink, $0.70 here. (When ya can find em). One for chassis, one for power supply.
I'll just sand the cases, paint em black (black bodies are "perfect radiators"). Mount the whole works to the outer case. Will use QED PCC passive control centre as a pre, perhaps with an upgraded attenuator (it has Alps blue now)

Comments?

Oh, ya I'm new here. Great Forums (all of diyAudio.com). I'm bit of a vinyl head.

I guess dead car amps are a natural resource , like coal or metals. Sounds like an excellent idea, where do you find them?

Welcome aboard

Default dead car amps...

Local "pawn" shops often get really beat up car audio amps. Saw a working one today for Cdn $18 or about USD$13. RCA's in, place for power in, spade type connections for the loudspeakers. 70 whole cents (or about half a buck for u) for non working amps here if they end up with dead ones:-)

All I 'd need are the guts removed, gc guts put in. Get a second one for the PS. Also have a dead NAD tuner , metal chassis, same hinda thing. Just need ta get a thick piece of stainless and ground it all.

Thanks for your input (no pun intended)
