Default Interesting Find - Car Audio CHIPAMP??

I found this GEM on ebay and purchased not know what it really was. At first I had assumed it was simply your standard mosfet amplifier until I received it. I always look at the idea of recapping or modifying amplifiers (doesnt everyone?) and in doing so realized wow- this thing is a chip amp!

2x65w Sound familiar gainclone fans?

has 2x 3886 chipsets

Anyone have further information about this? Any updgrades recommended on this amplifier or power supply section? REcap or no?

Era is said to be 1996-1998?

Lots of spaces for added components said to be because there is a 4 channel version around?

Would like any/all information, comments, suggestions- Thanks!

Can't be that old as the 3886 was introduced in the mid to late 1990's.
You'd have to check the components' condition and quality to determine if worth upgrading.
No model number, no link or pics? Not much more advice can be given.

If it is working alright, I'd leave it as is. I'd take some power measurements. Seems to be based on around +/- 25v rails (under load) by looking at the transformer. What are the ICs to the far left. They seem discolored.

John,

Is it not worth recapping if it's build date was 1998?

Never seen a U.S.Amps amplifier with chip amps, but, that unregulated supply with tip35c's was used in nearly all of their amps through out the 90's. Unless there's an obvious problem I would let it be and use it.

Right on, I always consider if there would be improved sound by using better caps, etc.

Thanks for advice!

That is a neat amp, I might try some small film/foil bypass caps on the small electto caps near the power pins. Does it have input caps, or straight through DC coupled?
