Well, its doubtful if it sounds good, but probably OK. It is Pulse Width Modulation amp which is a class D amp or digital amp. The package size is not workable by most DIY'ers unless you can do SMD/SOP work. Not to mention the additional requirements to incorporate the chip into a working circuit. IMHO there is to much involved to make this chip into something useful when there are so many other monolithic amps to experiment with.

It appears that the Philips TDA8924 is better than the TI ..
The TAS5121 only has one channel, whereas the TDA8924 has two, (with same or slightly higher power). The TDA has better specs for most parameters. Not sure about sound though. Applications seem to be home cinema, which for some brands means: 'doesn't have to be so good as real hifi'. And since 'real hifi' has to be extremely good sounding, they could be right .. ![]() http://www.semiconductors.philips.co.../TDA8924_1.pdf |

This is just a higher level of integration around their existing Equibit chip line, and from what I can see in the datasheet isn't really a full integration - this is just the output stage, which you'd still have to couple with the modulator.
The Equibit stuff is used in the new Panasonic receivers that are getting pretty good 'bang for buck' reviews, as well as the high-dollar Tact digital gear, which is truly world-class, so this stuff has the capability to sound good. |

Jewilson: I said 'It appears.......' You are right i was only interpreting the datasheets.
mikejz84 .. It may be good for that and other stuff too. Thanks for posting it! dwk123: You are right! These two devices are really incomparable .. I missed that part at first glance
