A pseudo-techie front panel marked in 'dB' must be better, and therefore more expensive, than a boring old 0-10 scale? It is quite possible that the 'dB' markings bear only the vaguest connection with a genuine dB scale.

Very likely as they are probably on the front of a log pot with a law that only slightly resembles a log curve (Most 'log' pots are pretty skanky)..
