Consider that this particular power op-amp will run better if set to low gain.
If the tone amp section can provide some gain, and if the TDA7294 is switched over to hi-fi design instead of datasheet example, then the tone amp is not reducing system quality. It is, perhaps, a "break-even" prospect. This idea could be upgraded to hi-fi if a "tone cancel/bypass" switch were added to allow the preamp to be used without the tone processing.
