Default DIY bass amp: new project

new member and first post, Rather jump straight in!

I recently bought a bass guitar and I wish to build a bass amp, this is for the enjoyment of building and the satisfaction of an end result.

I wish to have a practice amp for home which is about 50W output at most. I require it to do clean and distortion and at least have four EQ knobs (bass Low mids, High mids. Treble). the circuits need to be simplish is construction as I follow the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid!).

I am quite used to DIY projects in terms of building and modding pedals, however I have never built an amp so this requires some help on the knowledge side! I have also deliberately avoided tubes as i know that tubes are potentially lethal and I wish to get a bit more experience before building a tube project.

many thanks

Use a 3886 for the power amp running on a 160VA 25+25Vac transformer. There are many circuits in here. Download the National datasheet and read it thoroughly at least twice. Include the two input filters. Include the output Thiele Network. Include all 4 decoupling capacitors. Check your gain is in an acceptable range, from 10times to 40times (usually better from 20times to 30times).

Go to the musical instruments section for ideas and advice on the pre-amp.
