Hello everyone. I want to get a small tripath amp, in an aluminum casing. I found some on ebay pretty cheap but I don't know exactly which one to get. I want one that I can change the caps for better ones. I will be using it for testing, maybe build some monitors for my office. Also I have a pair of Fostex FE206EN that I will put in a Dallas II enclosure for my tube amp but I will leave that for winter
I found 2 form factors that the ta2020 comes in: http://img.alibaba.com/img/pb/942/35...356942_075.jpg and http://www.hllyhifi.com/images/TP-2020-0.jpg Is there a "preferred" one? I want one because it's cheap small and has good quality to the sound. I would get a kit but I like both enclosures and don't want to have that on my head at the moment. Also is it worth looking at other chips? I saw some that used the ta2024, is it better? 2*15W TA2024 Tripath Class-D Digital Audio Amplifier | eBay Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. |

beats me, 15-20 watt is not a lot, many chips can manage that.
as for class d chips, i personaly do not favour them over others. gainclones can manage 2x the power as those tripath chips. as for quality, i would think class d is more about beig efficient. |

10 watts is enough for near field listening or efficient speakers; If 10 watts isn't enough, 20 watts won't be either. "Twice as loud" means 10 times as much power. Nearly all "high power" car head units only put out about 10 real RMS watts into 4 ohms (check the reviews), but that's enough power for bass you can feel (at least inside a car). Typical portable cassettes and radios only had about 1/10 of a watt, but could fill a room with low-fi music.
There's a Yamaha class-D chip that may be better for some purposes, the YDA148. Similar power to the TA2020/TA20204, but with the bonus of built-in clipping protection. There's a "Y148" amp board on eBay for about $14 shipped, but I found a cheaper one at Dealextreme (which I ordered a few days ago). |

My hifi - YouTube I use the same amp, but mine has a built in DAC, the T20U, not 20 bucks on eBay, but unbelievably musical! |

Anyway I've got this amp and it looks nice inside. Here's the link Muse M20 EX2 TA2020 amp pictures and some info Ordered some Mundorf 2.2uF 250V, cheapest ones and a coil kit from 41hz. Also need to find source for Nichicon FW 2200uF/16V as I can fit only 2 in parallel for the power source.
