I just finished and powered up the amplifier a few minutes ago. I am pushing the output into a pair of Epicure 14 speakers from my father-in-law.
Gain is set at a fixed 9.5, giving a max output of about 45 watts at the maximum output from my computer. The transformer has dual 24VAC secondaries, with a 200VA output (Antek 2224). Both chips are mounted to a 3" slice of Par-Metal HSG-07 heatsink (nominal thermal resistance of roughly 1.4 C/W (effectively 2.8 C/W per chip). It sounds fantastic! It has enough headroom for as loud as we want to listen, with no audible hum at all. It is replacing an Ashly FET-2000 commercial amp. The new amp has no fan noise. It also has less audible buzz or hiss at the speakers. The amp also seems to be able to handle music at full volume with no audible collapsing of the rails. It has 1500 uF at each rail at the chip, with a 100 uF per rail on the rectifier board. Mission accomplished!!! Thank you to everyone who offered such helpful advice. |
