Hi,
I was working on my chipamp (2x LM3886) when the output wire for one of the amp modules brushed up against the metal, grounded amp chassis for a good number of seconds. Now when I crank the amp the left channel sounds scratchy at the high settings.
Permanent damage?
Dang :-/

Yes, unfortunately it is probably permanent damage. I would think that the chip is on its way out and if you push it hard once again, it may go completely. Your best bet is probably to just replace the affected LM3886 as it is unlikely to be any of the other surrounding components.
