I don't know about the thump, but I do have an assembled version of the 2311 with remote hooked to my GAS Son of Ampzilla. I love the sound! Quite clean and very neat.

and additionally, activate or deactivate the LM3886 by using the mute function (earthing the mute input). You could do that with a relay; the start time can be set (RC) while a diode can ensure a fast deactivation.
How to incorporate that in pre would be by tapping the signal for mute in the pre:

On power up, “power−up reset” is activated for about 100ms during which the circuit is in hardware MUTE state and all internal flip-flops are reset. (datasheet)
