Basic Chip Amp

Hi

I have recently submerged in the DIY in the Audio Universe, so I started with a really basic Synth.

After that i Decided to build a Talkbox, using a compression horn driver, specifically a Pyle Pro 772 Compression Driver which is rated 600 watts 8 Ohms.

Which leads to my post...

Im trying to build an Amp to feed the the Compression Driver, with a signal from a Virtual Synth trough my Audio Interface which has a 1/4 Output with an instrument level of 2.0 Vrms.

Im trying to achieve 30-40 Watts of amplification.

I have 2 LM741 chips which i didn't use for my synth.

I am wondering if someone has done an Amp using 741's chips that can gimme some schematics or info about building it.

Any info, tips, guides will do.

While you can undoubtedly use your 741s in the process of building an audio amplifier, they are very basic opamps with performance that is regarded as mediocre nowadays. In any case you will need to buy some other components against which the cost of the 741s will appear trivial. I would just hang onto these ICs but forget them as far as building an amp is concerned.

Look at the Nat Semi LM3886 chip. This will easily achieve 30-40Watts with a minimum of supporting components and the price is low. You can find many threads here and even websites elsewhere dedicated to building 3886 based chipamps. There are numerous other chips in the Nat Semi Overture series with a range of power outputs. One of these will suit your purposes better than a design using the 741s.

I use 741's mostly as thumbtacks as they aren't worth much. OK, they are usable at DC but not for much else.

I will start heading in that direction using the 3886.
