I have a pair of M-Audio SP-5B's that I'd like to mod for the fun of it. I came across this post where someone claims to have made some significant improvements:
M-Audio BX5 review [Archive] - Futurelooks Community Forums This site shows a basic block diagram (that's also in the user manual) of the circuit in each speaker but I can't seem to find a schematic online: M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B Active Near-Field Monitors Each power amplifier uses a lm3886tf. My first mod that I am going to make that germanium suggests is to get rid of the fuses that supply the rail voltages to the lm3886TF. Seems logical. Another mod, that does not really makes sense to me, that I have a few questions about, involves removing DC coupling caps and just replacing them with jumpers. Is this possible? If no DC coupling cap, don't designers typically use a servo circuit to remove DC? Or is it okay to leave a certain amount of DC in the circuit provided a significant amount does not end up on the speakers? Also, any tips on what the best way to go about modding this circuit, would be appreciated as I am new to modding. My gut instinct tells me to take the board and draw the schematic, then compare the design to other chipamp designs and see if there are some areas where I can improve the circuit. Thanks |
