lm3886 beginners first project

Hi guys. I am new at this hobby and have bought from ebay this kit here
LM3886 Hi-End AMP DIY KIT component 68W components NEW - eBay (item 260425032471 end time Jun-03-10 02:06:43 PDT)

Now I consider this transformer here
MULTICOMP|VTX-146-225-118|TRANSFORMER, 225VA, 2 X 18V | Farnell United Kingdom

Do you guys think this should work ok ?

That transformer is perfect for 4ohm speaker duty.
It would also do for 6 & 8 ohm duty but just not quite as loud.

It does seem a little expensive for a 225VA. Note: it is a 230:18+18Vac
On 240Vac it will give ~20.1Vac when open circuit.

I probably go for 4ohm speakers I am not out for volume just comfortable listening level.

Then I suppose I can have te flexibility of using either 4ohm or 8 ohm but 8 ohm would be somewhat lower in volume or watts.

Now I got my amp up and running. Transformer is 225va with two 25v secondaries. My speakers are 30year old Technics 8ohm. The sound is above my expectations bright and warm. Bass is comfortable and natural. Works very nice on jazz. Next thing is to build a housing for the unit and I must build a preamp for my LP player. Any suggestions regarding a simple preamp?

Are you using MM or MC cartridge? You looking for a kit?

Something simple like a passive attenuator could be a solution.
Just a good volume control in line. Very clean sounding.
Won't help the phono situation, though.

You may consider ESP's phono amp and line amp. Here is the link Hi-Fi RIAA Phono Preamp. The circuit is not complicated that can be implemented on prototyping boards. The components are also very common and inexpensive.

You can probably find a cheap board or kit for it too.

My bad memory.Haven`t used the thing for 20 years.
The cartridge is a MC 0.35 mV output.
