I recently purchased a Pyle Pro PCA2 utility amp, i hooked it up to some cheap speakers in my living room and was impressed that there was no hum or hiss. i later set it up on my desk to use with my PC, but now of course there is a very noticeable hum whenever the amp is on. i'm sure it has a lot to do with my modem, wireless router, and LCD being very close to it. i want to know if grounding the amp (comes with 2 pin plug) by replacing the cord and adding a chassis ground would hurt or help the sound.
here's the amp http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PCA2-40-W.../dp/B001P2VV50 |

Not likely. You can try the following.
- Connect amp and PC to the same outlet, i. e. use adjacent outlets on a power strip. - Turn the power plugs around. You may find a combination where the hum becomes less. That worked for my PC amplifier. - Move the signal and speaker cables around and separate them as good as you can form power cables and devices that have a transformer inside including the very amplifier.

Agree with pacific
My experience is the signal wires at the input are the source. Try moving the connectors to gain better contact or replace with HQ cables.

thanks for the input. i moved the amp underneath my desk and i have it plugged into a different wall socket, i also found a better shielded RCA to 1/8 adapter. now its almost dead silent!
