Ive been planning on building a small mp3 player speaker system for mobile use but just ended that project after buying an HMDX Speaker-on-the-go. My wife wanted one for use at work with her iPod after seeing someone elses. So I bought one for $8.99 and WOW, what a great little cheap device. Its got suprisingly good fidelity and is well thought out. Speakers are somewhat protected and the player fits inside the unit so its perfect for highly portable use. Generally waterproof me thinks.
HMDXaudio.com | HMDX-GO - Speaker-on-the-Go - Portable speakers for iPod & MP3 players Ive resisted ripping it apart to see what they have used inside but it operates on 2 AAs so a chip happy with 2.5 - 3VDC is inside. And its definitely stereo. This "disposable" player and mp3 player will get lots of action this summer. Very light so perfect for backpacking, cycling and expendable so good for the beach or poolside. Not diy but just a cool cheap chip thingie I thought Id pass along. amt |

It would appear to use those small drivers (12mm diameter), similar to the ones found in some laptops.
Glad you like it. I'm contemplating making something small and portable like that... Chris

Given that the device is 4" across, i would suspect those are clones of the 25mm JBL/Harmon driver that Apple used in the 2nd generation iMac.
![]() DIY2000 A decent little speaker. One of the most important bits to salvage out of a dead iMac. Emacs & Crystal spheres have a 35mm version either a Foster or JBL varient. dave
