to avoid the amplifier causing the pass through of the popping, you need the amplifier to go to mute as soon as power OFF occurs.
You don't need a delay. The delay is needed at power ON.

I agree, the mute should start when I flip the OFF switch, but I thought the mute has to be held active also several seconds later - during the moment the poping sounds in the speaker.
