I've heard a lot of audio in my time and this morning hooked up this stereo module that I got off Ebay with a pair of LM3886.
Just using an 2 x 18vac xformer I had and some raw aluminum for heatsinks -- just put it on a breadboard. This is a really GREAT sounding amp ! A lot of detail with my near field full range speakers and plenty of power for me. I was wondering -- I would imagine these may be used a lot in car audio systems but what manufacturers are using these chips in their receivers etc? Was leery about this module (25 bucks shipped from China)(1.50 profit?) but it kicks ***. |

The chipamp will not start up from a +12V supply. It will produce very little power from +-12Vsupply.

good point -- forgot about that.
what about commercial receivers? I'm asking because I may consider keeping things simple and just get a new 5.1 receiver. The power amps in my Yamaha are absolute crap and I've really never heard a surround receiver worth a damn. |

Well the Synthesis Magnum uses LM3886, Jeff Rowland uses them in the Model 10 and Concentra/Concentra II amplifiers and most likely many others.
