Hi all,
I am hoping to implement a passive line level xo like the one shown here: Passive High-Level Crossover to drive 2 pretty basic lm3886 amps. 2nd order cross at around 80hz. I am not using an active preamp, just a 50k stepped attenuator. Will this combo work? Work well? Do I need to run an active pre? Any help is appreciated, MrKramer |

you cannot get a 2pole from a passive circuit unless you combine capacitors and inductors.
You can get 1pole from passive using R+C or L+C. The R+C is usually adopted. For the passive filter to work correctly, it must be fed from a zero ohm source impedance and it must feed into an infinite load impedance. That Rsource and Rload requirement demands some active stages. Decide if you want passive + active stages or go straight to active filter.
