I completed my dual mono chip amp project months ago and have been enjoying the wonderful sound of my amp. I am ready for my next project which will require a mono amp to be as compact as possible. Has anyone come across a transformer other than the toroids that are smaller in size and available off the shelf? I have seen R-core transformers mentioned, but has anyone found any that are available that would work?

I think toroid is as small as they get.
Rcore and Ccore are bigger. EI are much bigger. All have a different shape and some may suit a small package better than others. The transformer efficiency determines the transformer losses and in turn determines the heat load inside the chassis. Again toroid is good and EI is bad.
