Default chip amp advice

ok im looking into building a 300 to 350 watt amp to power two
8 ohm spakers at 350watt rms and 1100watt max i am kinda confused on which chips i should choose so far i have found these that should work but i would like some help

STK0080II

STK0050II

LM3876

the LM series seem to be more popular but i have head a TDA one and it was pretty nice sounding, im not real picky on which chips i need to get as long as they are stable at 8 ohms and i can make them work together to make a 300 - 350 watt amp.

350W? Do you want to bleed from the ears?

well the amp is for pa/dj speakers and 350watt is not that loud, i normally run my other set at like 430watt on a normal dj gig.

i had an old TDA1554q i pulled out of a boston speaker that i lost the cables to and the chip is only half working... only the left side works, its a 22watt and it sounds like a half dead owl.

so im taking tda chips out of this equation

If 350 W is not that loud, there is either something wrong with your speakers or with your ears.

None of the ICs in your first post has remotely the amount of power you need.

Buy a PA amplifier. A chipamp cannot deliver that amount of power reliably for an extended time. You need protection circuits (shorts, overload and overtemperature, under- and overvoltage, DC, compressor/limiter, etc.) and the amplifier must comply with safety regulations, when used in public places.

PA amplifiers are sold at prices you cannot beat with DIY anyway. Usually you cannot even source the case and the transformer for the price of an entire commercial amplifier.

The TDA1554 is a 4x11 W amplifier IC for car radios. Don't judge the entire range of TDA ICs by it. TDA7293 and TDA7294 offer a similar quality as the LM3876.

ok thanks for the response, the tda that i have sounds fine now i had a cap that was bad... replaced it and it sounds great.

btw any ideas on which amp?

300 watt is not that much when you are covering a very very large area. i have to stand behind the speakers otherwise they make me def for a bit. but when they are on the stands and i am djing in a 1-2 acre field then it is not that loud. im not talking sticking your head in the speaker im talking about distributed sound over a very very large area

Search for "BPA 300" (or BPA 200), and check out app note AN-1192.

It's a bridged-parallel amp capable of 200W - 300W per channel depending on certain factors like speaker impedance and power supply voltage.

Don't do it.

You wouldn't allow an employer to do it to you in an industrial setting, and you may live to regret even your current exposure.

Hi,
the lm3886 is the most powerful of the National Chipamps.
It will do 60W into 8r0.

If you bridge a pair of these chips they will do 120W into 16r0.
Build a 4 chip BPA and it will do 240W into 8r0.

If you want to drive a reactive 8 ohm speaker then I suggest you use a 6chip BPA. It will stilll produce a maximum of ~240W into 8ohms but will require a large heatsink to prevent the chips protecting themselves prematurely due to running hot.

This is quite a complex amplifier to build, I would go and look at using a quasi for your power demands.
