Beginners single supply subwoofer active equalizer

Please find attached picture. It's working when 1st amp is set GAIN = 1

Why two cascaded stages?
What happens when the first stage gain is set >1?
How did you set the first stage gain=1?
Why only 12Vdc supply?
What is the maximum signal that can pass through these opamps?

--> Prior to this I was using single amp But I did not get good effects.
Why only 12Vdc supply?
--> I am using 15Vdc supply.

I do this all for my hobby. I am not an electronics man.
how this preamp works ? I don't know but It's sounding good for me. In general term I used Dual POT/CONTROL which has 6 pins as shows in attached picture.
