Actually this was my question but if i am not bothering you can you tell me what difference can it make to improve the sound as in last few amplifiers i created i get this background noise is that caused by using cheap capacitors?

I've not actually done it in a SS amp, it makes a really big difference in a tube amp. The reason for not doing it on a SS amp is that the usual values required make the space required and the cost for poly caps to be just too much.

A typical GC thou has a fraction of the capacitance.... and i recall an experiment Peter Daniel did with the big caps (1000uF) in the external power supply and small caps on the audio board. It id this last situation that experiemnting with poly caps may be beneficial.

This whole topic may well be covered in some of the GC threads, i've only read a fraction of them.
