2 chipamp's per speaker (active) wiring advice?
I have a perfectly fine set of B&W 600 S3's I am trying to re-case into cloned 802d's and I am trying to come up with the best way to do it.
I would be using the existing midbass woofer and tweeter from the 600s3 as well as the existing crossover. The new case design should have very similar volume to the small bookshelf case it was designed for, and I will be adding two new 8" woofers per speaker (per the original)
What I WAS imagining, was running my amp's powered speaker level out into a plate 'sub' amp (built into each speaker) via the sub amps speaker level inputs. Then running the speaker level out into the existing B&W crossover. I believe I would have problems running only a mono signal to each speakers sub amp, but I am not positive.
What I was thinking as a lower cost alternative (always better) was using 2 chip amps built into each speaker sharing a powersupply. Maybe 30 watts for the 2 8" woofers and 30 watts into the old bookshelf crossover.
What I can't figure out is how to seperate the signal into low and high frequancy.
Any simple ideas that don't involve terribly complicated wiring?
Or maybe a better way to do what I am trying to do?
The speakers won't need to go to exceedingly high volume, and are being morphed into 802d clones primarily for looks. I don't require a better sound than what i had with the 2 bookshelves stand mounted and properly crossed over to a single sub.
Linkwitz Riley Active, the only way to go for quality bi/tri-amping.

- (psssst... did it with four LM3886's, pair driving low and mid+tweeter, Beovox MC120.2's (rewired, bypassing LF passive section) and Behringer SuperX Pro CX3400 electronic crossover and not looking back...)

If you want to try the concept, but don't want to build something as complex, how about the very simple active crossover describedhere ? ;)
for the tiny cost of a chipamp and it's few components, I suggest you dedicate a chipamp to EVERY driver.
The existing passive crossover can be driven by two chipamps.
The two extra 8inch driver each get their own chipamp.
And use an L-R active crossover to split the signal into the bass and mid/treble amps.
