is there a way to make my own receiver
i dont need ALL the components that most receivers have (so why should i pay for all the extra features that i am not using) i saw a sony receiver the other day, it was a home theatre in the box (i know, not the most prefered items) but it had only audio inputs (not audio and video like most) and it had the following: 1x 2 RCA (stereo) 1x toslink (optical) 1x RCA (digital coax) 5 speaker jacks, 1 sub-woofer jack and it was about half the price of a similar sony receiver that had 4-6 2 channel RCA inputs. so the question is - is there a BASIC receiver that has only 1 analog input, 2-3 digital inputs and supports dolby and dts 5.1? if not - is there a cost effective way to make it myself (e.g. someone who knows electronics to design it, pick the chips) and for me to make it ? thanks for the help |

If you are looking for cost effective, then you probably can't build one anywhere as inexpensively as for what you can buy one.
Even the mid grade receivers have economies of scale going for them which you can't even try to compete with. So, unless you really want to jump in the deep end and build yourself a receiver for fun or sound quality, I would suck it up and buy one at one of the big box stores. If you don't have a pretty good bit of experience building amps, etc. already, putting together a full fledged 5.1 receiver would not be a first project I would recommend for anyone. Sorry! |
