DIY chassis

I am in the process of building an Audio Sector LM4780 chip amp and a Twisted Pear Kookaburra preamp. I've had no problem sourcing most of the necessary parts.

When it comes to chassis options I've come up pretty empty. I've found diyenclosures.com, which carries products which look pretty nice, but I was hoping for cheaper options. I've searched these forums to no avail.

Is there a resource or thread I'm missing? Can those of you who've had good luck finding or building chassis provide some info?

I have ordered my enclosure from these guys:

circuitspecialists.com

Despite the poor picture, the enclosure presents itself really nice. The aluminum front and back are silver matte and the top is black. I was able to easily cut it with just basic tools. Price is not bad neither as it comes with rubber stands and all necessary screws. I think I paid somewhere close to $8-10 for shipping.

Producing a decent enclosure on the cheap is very difficult! A friend of mine started off with one based on one of my designs but the cost soon got out of control and he has hardly sold any!

I have a few of their enclosures. They are a decent quality for a reasonable price.

The only real con I can think of with par-metal is the aluminum they use has a coarse grain to it. If you run you finger nail across the grain it will actually file it down a bit.
Hee hee, free nail file, what else can you ask :D

Thanks

Thanks for all the great suggestions (keep 'em coming if you've got more). Here are a few things I've come across looking through the photos thread; figure I'll put them here as this thread looks to be a nice collection of chassis ideas.

One of the threads lgreen pasted mentions the Hammond enclosures; matjans has a nice example here:

Also dfdye likes using "old SCSI external enclosures":

You can make a Firly nice looking Chassis out of Wood and it would be much cheaper and easier to work with.....

I have made a few Chasis out of wood and didn"t have any problems with interferance or Hum problems but I also live out in the Boonies so there isn"t a lot of Things to cause any interferance......

Cheers
