Default Large Heat Sinks

Looking for a source for large extruded sinks (Something like 12"x3"
x1" high) that will sell in small quantity. Have used solid copper bar in the past but the cost has gone through the roof!

Any suggestions?

Pete

I know it's a long way from where you are, but the quality of Conrad Heatsinks is excellent and prices are very reasonable.

Apex.jr has a lot of different heatsinks at the moment...situated within the north american borders and real cheap.

I agree with Alleycat; the heatsink products from Conrad Heatsinks (http://www.conradheatsinks.com) are very nice and the prices are quite reasonable, even after including shipping costs from Austrailia to the US.

Thanks for your replies.
Cat, those sinks do look nice I'll check them out for price and shipping.

Magura, thanks for reminding me about Apex, I'll take a look at their site as well.

Regards,
Pete

Pete,

The best U.S. source of large heatsinks, that I know of, is an ebay seller named barrredboss. The easiest way to find his stuff might be to just copy and paste the following ebay item-listing title, which he is currently using, into the search field at http://www.ebay.com : HEATSINK ALUMINUM EXTRUSION 12 " BIG AMP MATERIAL

He sells large, finned aluminum extrusions, that look quite excellent (See his photos, descriptions, and thermal data.). They are 5.375 inches (136.5 mm) wide and 1.375 inches (34.9 mm) thick, with a 0.375 inch (9.53mm) solid base with 1-inch (25.4mm) fins. There are 21 fins in the 5.375-inch width. Quoting from his ebay listings: "4.4 pounds per foot, .375 c/w per 12 inch section or better, .75 c/w per 6 inch section or better, 1.5 c/w per 3 inch section or better".

He will cut to any length(s) (up to 49 inches) for free. Quoting from his ebay listing: "i can cut 12" lengths down to your size. the cuts are as smooth as glass, and accurate. i do not count saw kerf if you order a 12" piece and want it cut in half you will get 2-6" pieces."

Minimum purchase is 12 inches for $19.00, with $9.65 for flat-rate Priority Mail (2-day) shipping if in the USA (No change in shipping cost for up to four 12-inch sections at-a-time, too!). But you can have that cut to multiple smaller sizes, for free. Apparently, he will also cut the width down, too, if you want.

He also has quantity discounts, down to $13 per foot, and says he has an "unlimited supply".

I have not bought from him, yet, but am about to, and have seen him mentioned favorably, on diyaudio.com.

Edit: Checking some threads, here at diyaudio.com, the seller's email address is (or was, at least) barrredboss@yahoo.com , and his name is Rus.
