Hi all,
I'm curious about : 1. What is the black material underneath the amp/PSU 2. What is the negative input capacitor value and why Kimura san uses it this time. Is there any sound benefit? http://www.hifi.nl/recensies.php?id=1966 - Miro |

The black material is a Japanese ceramic called Shigaraki (hence the name). Apparently it has unique resonance damping properties hmmm... ;-)
Not sure what the third PSU cap is, although I've had success using a cap between V+ and V- so perhaps that is what it does... |

sharpi31, thank you for the ceramic information! It's very interesting.
Now, about the cap, in my opinion it is a feedback capacitor that ensures unity gain at DC. As you can see at the picture it is betwen the earth and the inverting input resistor. This is a step back from simplicity of Gaincard, but maybe it brings some sonic advantage. What do you think? |
