I salvaged a 03GEEG3E EMI filter made by Delta Electronics from a CRT. Is there any point in using this in front of a transformer for a gainclone PSU?

What is the current rating of the EMI module? I would try it with and without to determine which setup sounds better. If you have other noisy electronics connected to the same outlet or on the same power strip it may be beneficial to use it.

It's rated for 3 amps.

A 3A rating should be enough unless you plan on using it in a pretty powerful amp. If you don't like how it sounds you can easily replace it with an IEC jack that doesn't have the EMI filter.
