Do you have a multimeter to test for yourself? Usually the middle pin (2) is the 'wiper' and the resistance between the 'wiper' and the other pins will change when you turn the pot. Usually pins 1 and 3 are fixed at 10KOhm. Obviously you will have two extra pins that power the motor. All of my Alps pots are wired the same but this one has two extra 'Dummy' pins. (not in use.) Alps website Datasheet I found all of this information with Google "Alps Japan".

However this pot has 8 pins. And there is no middle point.
And there is no data in datasheet..

The picture (and datasheet) clearly shows the pin numbers. Two of those pins are not connected (labelled 'Dummy'). THE TWO OUTSIDE PINS ARE NOT USED and the others are numbered on the picture. The +ve & -ve are also clearly shown for the motor control Usually, Pins '2' are the wipers. Usually, pins 1 and 3 are fixed at 10KOhm. You can check this with a resistance meter. Regards, Martin.

Hi, I need to replace an old Soundwell 20K pot with an ALPS RK16812MG LOG 10 KDx2.
As far as I understand, in order to mentain the same value I need to add 10K 0.25W series resistors. My question is ( dooh ) which pins should I use to connect the 10K resistors ?thanks |
