Gainclone with battery vs. A/C power

Are there any benefits in a 3875 G-C to go with battery power instead of the A/C from the wall?
How many 12VDC batteries do I need?

What is your target power output? Maximum and average?

No, use batteries only if you need it portable. A general comparison to what most people use for AC-DC would entail about 4 x 12V batteries (as 24-0-24) of over a dozen amps each else you could only listen for a short time before wearing down the plates and having the continual burden of frequent recharging (and added cost of the charger).

I don't have a scope to measure power consumption. The speakers are 3 & 4" single driver 80-88dB efficient with 8 ohm load.
The 88 dB runs fine on my 22wpc Denon minisystem. Volume is set to 20 out of 34 max.

Hi,
if 88db/W and 22W get on as partners then 80 db/W will need 160W or thereabouts to match the volume.

Both these are beyond what would be sensible for battery powered.

1 or 2W and 96db/W would better suit battery power and only if set up to require very low quiescent current.
