Gainclone with battery vs. A/C power

No, use batteries only if you need it portable. A general comparison to what most people use for AC-DC would entail about 4 x 12V batteries (as 24-0-24) of over a dozen amps each else you could only listen for a short time before wearing down the plates and having the continual burden of frequent recharging (and added cost of the charger).

The 88 dB runs fine on my 22wpc Denon minisystem. Volume is set to 20 out of 34 max.

if 88db/W and 22W get on as partners then 80 db/W will need 160W or thereabouts to match the volume.

Both these are beyond what would be sensible for battery powered.

1 or 2W and 96db/W would better suit battery power and only if set up to require very low quiescent current.
