I've only used passive radiators in suboofer applications, however I'd imagine they could be used the same in the 3 way. I can try to help, but it would be best to take my advice with caution.

The added cost is a downside, have you looked into different companies for passives? Even cheap active drivers can be used...they must have enough xsus. Then just add mass to the cone to tune it(easiest way is to remove the motor assembly and epoxy lead shot to the VC)

Edit:

They Daytons add $30bucks for the two(they suggest 2 8's per 8 activer driver, I think one will suffice) ...well worth the low end gained IMHO. Whats your internal dimensions so I can check out some stuff in WinISD?

1 cubic foot, give or take a few inches. I have not compensated for the volume of the cones or the electronics, however. And I will be replacing the power brick with a battery, maybe two smaller batteries to even out the size and weight.
