Default amp trouble?? expert opinions please

I've recently sold my system to a friend of mine. 1 rockford type rf x5 amplifier (rated 550 @2 ohm) and two earthquake dbr 15's(rated at 800 max and i think 250 rms??). well this setup worked great and sounded really nice. he took it to a local circuit city to install and within an hour after installation one of the speakers blew(according to him). he took it back to them and they hooked it up to one of their mtx subs (probably the cheap model) and he claimed it blew their sub within 5 min. does any one have any idea what could cause this? can it be an installation error? like i said before, this sounded really well in my car. i also had this amp pushing one earthquake 15 magma and it pounded really well also. any advice is appreciated.

Is there any DC voltage on the output terminals of the amp?

If not, you may want to pull the bottom cover to see if the large brown capacitor (near the output inductor) has broken loose. The ones that were not bonded to the board or inductor tended to break loose.

Was he driving the system hard when it blew the woofer?

well, i havent recieved the amp back yet so i'm unable to test anything. and yes i believe he was pushing the system hard when it blew. i was thinking he may have pushed them too hard for too long, but i don't know. if the capacitor did break loose, would that cause the woofer to blow? the installers told him that the amp was defective(may be to cover their a$$es)
thanks for the reply
