Orion hcca 275r question

I resently fixed my Orion and i wonder what is the startup current for it? When i turn it on from the remote my 25amp powersuply hits max out for a couple of hundered milliseconds befor it goes to idle current (about 900mA). Now my question is, is this normal?

That's common for amps that don't use 'soft-start' for their switching power supply. The power supply starts at full duty cycle. When it starts, the rail caps draw significant current as they're being charged (which takes only a fraction of a second).

Can "turn-on thump" do any significant damage to a driver? I have an old Hifonics Atlantis that I've been testing since I repaired it. It is a beast, but I hate the fact that it does this. Any kind of soft start circuitry that would be an easy "add on" that anyone is aware of?
