Tubes as preamp..

Any one done anything with ECC86 or Ecc88/6DJ8 for car use,preamp or anything else fun?

Vibration....

I would not recommend using tubes in a car as vibration is a tubes greatest enemy. This will break. Also, if you want to use them, you may need a step-up supply as they run on voltages much higher than the battery supply in a car environment.

I had a tube system in my car for over 6 years (4 12AX7s and 4 5881GC's) with absolutely no problems. Tubes have been used in rugged applications for quite a long time with a good track record. Soon enough I shall be putting another tube system in my car.

You can try this, ECC88 (or 6DJ8), supply voltage is only +/-24V (You'll need to build an SMPS, though, but not a lethal voltage one )

Some guys at headwize was using ECC86 and an inverter to get +- 12v,maybe that could be sommething?

+/-24V is still to high? How about this one, only 12V, the tubes you can use anything, 12AX7, 12AY7, 12AU7, ECC88, any triode you have can work, in this low voltage, because it is connected as "common grid"

Are you using the cathode as a grid?

Cathode=signal input, anode via 100k+transistor=output, grid to ground via 1k.

What transistor are beeing used,just any ordinary or?

Anything in your hand will work, but gain like BC550 or BC560 better
