Ok I'm very new to this car audio thing and I have bought two dual 4Ohm Kicker Solo Baric 10" L5's, and a Kicker SX900.2 amp. Now I dont think that I got the right stuff.. Should I have got two dual 2Ohm Subs? Also my friend said that I should just go with one Solo Baric L7 12" can some one tell me if my amp can push that sub...

Hi,
I don't (want to) understand this 2ohm stuff. Now that all higher power amps in cars have an inverter inside, there is no need to go as low as 4ohms and a complete waste to go to 2ohm. Almost every 2ohm speaker will have less efficiency than every 8ohm speaker. Many will be -6db when comparing 2ohm to 8ohm. You will probably find that the amp only gains 4dbW to 5dbW in going down from 8r loading to 2r loading, so it turns out that you end up with less SPL from a 2ohm speaker than an 8ohm speaker. The distortion performance will be much improved when loading with 8ohm compared to either 4ohm or especially with 2ohm loading. BTW I am referring to SPL/W not SPL/2.83V. |
