Default Another cheap amp thread

Hi all...I'm looking for brand recommendations for an amp to drive 2 8" Seas CA21RE woofers I have in my doors (8 ohm). I read the other thread and it sounds like for ghetto amps Profile isn't too terrible. I'm interested in the Kole HK series, Hifonics Zeus, PG Tantrum, maybe JBL if I can find a good deal. I'm looking to keep it under $100.

The drivers are rated for 80wrms, I don't want to go much above 100 because they have very low excursion. Madisound sez "use common sense." It's hard to find ratings for 8 ohms, so I go by the ratio of 4 to 2.

BTW, the car came with 2 DVC 2 ohm subs, powered with 170w max amps...so I think I'm getting MAYBE 15wrms to each sub now. Will a new amp really drive these things or would some DVC 2 ohm subs like the MBQ RWE202 be better?

TIA!

for 8 ohms, you'd want to halve the power into 4 ohms.

ideally, yeah, but I've heard that cheaper amps don't quite make that ratio...

I went and bought the MTX RT.202 on sale at circuitcity since people have repeatedly said their power is decent and reliable. i'll post results!

It's not hooked up yet, but I thought I'd share: it came with a little bench-test sheet, they got THD+N=0.072%, S/N=108db, max power=218 watts. Does this make it one of the amps that can actually perform above spec?
