My car has a 10-channel amp - a channel for the six front speakers and the four rear speakers. I've replaced the front speakers with Diamond Hex S600s and the rears with Infinity Kappa Perfects. Box sets of speakers came with their own crossovers.
I had planned on replacing the amp with a 4-channel and running the 4 outputs to their repective crossover. The OEM front mid-range speakers would not be used. Unfortunately, space in the trunk prevents an amp larger than about 9" x 9" x 3".
Plan B is to retain the OEM amp but tie the common channel outputs together at their respective crossover.
Questions:
- is this a viable solution?
- will it hurt the amp
- will it increase the heat generated by the amp?
