Subwoofer pops when I turn on/off from deck

Hi, when I turn my sub on/off from the deck I hear a loud popping sound coming from the sub. In addition to this, if I go from CD mode to radio mode I also hear this thumping sound. The same sound takes place when I change radio stations. Please help!!!

I am assuming the subwoofer is on it's own amp?
It usually has to do with amps.
Is there a remote wire to turn it on, or does it use speaker level signal to turn it on?

Yes the sub does have its own amp and there is a remote wire to turn it on.

If you disconnect the RCA's to the sub amp do you still get the pop when turning the radio Off/On.
If you have another amp (for front speakers), try disconnecting that and see if the pop goes away.

Although the fact that it does it when switching to radio and changing stations leads me to believe it is the HeadUnit.

Check all grounds in system, including the impedence of the head-unit ground.

If all is ok, It sounds like the muting transistors on the heads output are bad.

I`ve had the same problem, in my case it was the ground from the amp that wasn`t connected good enough, after real though sanding the paint of the car and reconnecting the ground the problem was gone, ever since i`ve had 5 different cars and never had the problem again

it can be a common problem with certain brands of amps! just the design of the amp

its your remote turn on....is it connectde to the radios remote wire or to the acc wire?

tuneman you are thinking of a ground loop. You are close thou. if its not the ground it is in the signal from the head unit. or between the head unit and the amp.Oh by the way look at the ground from the motor ton the body this is what will cause the most confusion.

I have the same problem but all I did was switch out my amp for another one then out my original back in now it pops when I turn my truck on/off or Chang radio stations

sry to revive this but im having the same issue, everything was working great until i switched my 4ch amplifier and completly forgot to disconnect the power line from the battery and i think i messed up something...

now my 4ch amplifiers make really weird noise and the really weird part is that my sub mute option doesnt working anymore ONLY WHEN RCAs ARE CONNECTED TO THE 4CH AMP... my REAR channel's xover gets applied to the SUBWOOFER amp instead of the REAR channel... so i disconnected the amp. and my sub amp pops when i turn off the car....

disconnecting the rca from the subwoofer amplifier made the pop go away ..

i havent trying running the 4ch amp without RCAs to see if its fine...

did i blew/shorted the RCAs or something in the headunit??

ok just did, sry, was just very similar and yet no one had solution still in this thread..
