maybe one of the car speakers is shorted or maybe its impedance is too low , i dont think u are testing it on the bench with the same speakers as those inside the car

cooked input inductor? 12v input?

It sounds to me like the line supply to the amplifiers SMPS is horrible. perhaps you should put the power rail of his car under a scope and spot the problem instantly. bets are its... horrible
