I started looking at an amp for a friend, it draws current but no fets are shorted? It had a blown in half diode d12 and four of the caps look swollen, d23 reads shorted in circuit.

Some of the windings on the inductor seem darker than the rest. It could just be the lighting.

Pulled and checked d23, it's good. And replaced d12 with same result. Pull supply load down to 8vdc 4amps of current. I'll check the inductor.

Just the lighting in the photo. I think i am going to remove the fets and check them and the drive. Start there.

What supply are you using that gets pulled down to 8v with 4 amps of current?

15v 10amp. I'm tracing the outputstage now perry. Without the rectifiers in the amplifier, it no longer draws current. I should not have 10.8v on the gate leg of, one side of fets. I am looking at the driver board voltages now, shouldn't I have a +-15v going to the board?

That 11v is coming directly from the ic ( not sure of it's orientation heat sink is still attached.) Leg 6 I believe I can see under it.

I'm not familiar with this specific board but if it's like the larger boards, you will have +15, +5 and -5 and a 12v that is referenced to the negative rail.

Yet I have that 11vdc coming out of pin 6 of the driver I/c going to the gates.

Solder a bridge between pins 2 and 3 of the driver IC. Do you still have output from the IC?

Is pin 6 shorted to pin 7? If so, the IC is defective.

No, my fluke, did a diode test and it read the .564vdc

Lift pin 7 and check from pin 5 to the pad for pin 7.

You should have 12v there. Check the 12v regulator.

I don't know where the 11v on the IC was coming from if the regulator is not producing 12v.
