Hi folks, I just purchased a punch 4080 and it is in good working order. However the heatsink is all scratched up and basically beat up. I would like to remove the board from the heatsink so I can sandblast and repaint the heatsink. I dont however want to ruin the amplifier. Is it possible to separate the electronic components from the heatsink so I can restore it?
I am guessing that the pieces that have the thermal paste under the steel rails are the mosfets....it appears as if those are my main concern not sure if I can mess with them or not.

Not really.
You can see how the wires are acting as a sort of spring, pushing the black part of the thermistor down against the insulator. That's important. Whether you use the wires or some other method, the thermistor needs to be in contact with the insulator and heatsink compound needs to be applied between the thermistor and the insulator.

Hi Perry i took apart a 4040 and a 4080 today. The 4040 had a strip of red foam on bar and the 4080 did not. I am thinking i should add that when i reassemble the 4080. Thoughts?

The foam is typically used where the insulators are hard. Tape is not typically used when silicone/kapton insulators are used. The foam would be OK with the silicone insulators. You can get the high temp tape from mcmaster.
Side note, use ziplock bags to hold parts. One tiny bump and all of the screws go flying, especially with something like the pie tin.

ordered them. I am so thankful for your assistance.
I'm sorry but I don't really have any suggestions. There was someone else who refinished his heatsinks and they came out great but I can't remember enough about it to find the thread. Maybe someone else will remember (or have suggestions of their own).
Thank you kind sir!
Thanks for all the help. The restore was a complete success. Now i am moving on to restore a punch power 50x2 from 1996. I noticed that there isnt thermal paste under the transistors just what looks like a thin strip of material? How do i deal with this in a restoe?
