2003 Eclipse Spyder has Infinity factory stereo with seven speakers. The rear speakers sound weak and narrow range as compared to the five fronts. The factory amp is six channels, all appear to be equal. ANyone know why this is? I replaced the rears with quality 3ways but made very little differnece.

RE: Rear fill

Yes, the stereo might have a crossover on the rear speakers. Some in the car audio field believe the rear speakers, if even used at all, should only be used for rear-fill applications only. That means rolling off the rear speakers at about 2,000 hz (2nd order crossover or steeper for those who care). The idea is have the sound 'appear' right in front of you - instead of a boombox blasting at the back of your head.

Also, if the bass is weak, check to see that the speakers don't have air leaks around them.
