See amp spec below. Dont I have to wire two duals at 4ohm speakers to 2ohms to get 600 watts?

Hi Djp'

Your speaker set-up is similar to my own; (4) JL audio, 10w6v2-D4 (dual 4ohm voice coils). Yes, you're correct. Two "4ohm" voice coils wired together in "parallel", does' give you 2ohms. But in this case, because you're using 4 drivers, you'll have to wire them all in a "series/parallel" configuration. What that means is, each speaker has two, 4ohm voice coils, giving you two options.

The 1'st: Wire them in "parallel", which would give your amplifier a 2ohm load ("if you use only one"); but if you did that using all four drivers, you'd end up with a "combined" impedance totaling only 0.5 ohm or half an ohm. That's just like having a "dead short" circuit across the speaker output terminals, and will cause your amp to shut-down.

The 2'nd: Wire them in "series", for an 8ohm load, this way your combined total impedance will drop only to 2ohms, and your amp will be capable of generating a full 600w RMS. So the VC's are all wired in series, but the four drivers are wired together in parallel, creating a "series/parallel" wiring configuration, and a total of 2ohms. Hope this helps.

rigtec, cheers
