Default Do I Really need an LOC? (Newb Alert)

Hi All,
I have a 2013 Ford Escape with base radio/Sync.
I am upgrading the speakers now.

If I purchase a new amp with speaker level inputs, is this as good as using an LOC? I know very little about LOC's, but the prices are all over the place.
I'd rather put $100 into a better aux amp than buy an LOC, unless I NEED for decent sound.

My background is mostly building tube stuff, but can manage using SS with a schematic.

Thanks in advance for any help.

LOC's can be had for just a few bucks, best bet would be to get a new quality head unit, but if that is not an option than check for RCA out in the back of the head unit, some new factory HU have that. I don't understand how an LOC will improve your sound, if anything they make it worse slightly. Assuming you are talking about a line out converter (LOC)
