The 'troubleshooting with an oscilloscope' page of the tutorial should help.

The 'oscilloscope' page has additional information. If you have an older version, use the oscilloscope page on the car audio site. It's #73 in the directory.

The 'equipment' page covers scope probes.

A side note on the probes recommended previously...
They are suitable for most repair work but they are NOT Tektronix probes. The 6100 series Tektronix probes cost more and have the pins to force Tek scopes to display the correct vertical amplifier settings.

Post the DC voltage on all pins of U11.

The probes that you suggested work well enough. The range-selector function is only important for those who don't understand how to use their scopes and won't take the time to learn how to use it. On the 465 scopes, it only forces the alternate window to light up. If you short the outer ring on the scope (around the BNC connector) to the metal part of the BNC connector, you will see how the lights switch.

The attached photos show the alternate light and probes with the pins. Bear in mind that most (maybe all) probes with these pins are fixed multiplier probes (no 1x/10x switch).
